Note: This guide was based on Android v8.0.0 and Amazon App v2.2.319280.0
Pre-check
- Smartphone or Tablet with latest version of Alexa App installed.
- Amazon Echo or Echo Dot.
- If you know your Echo or Echo Dot’s mac address, then register to our device registration page.
- Amazon account.
1. Factory default your Amazon Echo or Echo Dot.
Warning: Factory default or setup mode will erase all previous wireless settings save on the device. If your Echo was previously registered to your Amazon account, your Amazon account will not be affected.
On your Echo, press and hold the “Mic Off” and “Volume down” button until the light ring changes to orange, then blue. In setup mode, Echo will broadcast its own wireless network in "Amazon-xxx" format.
2. In your smartphone, connect to “CSUMB Guest” Wi-Fi network and enable "Location/GPS". Then, open the Amazon Alexa app (Figure 1), add a new device (Figure 2), add "Amazon Echo" (Figure 3) and choose "Echo" or "Echo Dot".

3. Tap yes on "Is your Echo plugged" screen (Figure 4). Skip on "Turn on Bluetooth" (Figure 5), it will error, but try again and it will continue (Figure 6). Wait for few seconds.

4. Exit on the "Connect your phone to your echo" screen but don't "cancel" (Figure 7). Tap the “home” button to exit without canceling the setup process.
5. Connect to "Amazon-xxx" wifi network (Figure 8). Once connected you will hear a "beep".
6. Open Alexa app again, wait for a few seconds and it will continue to "Select your wifi network" (Figure 9).

7. If you registered your Echo mac address beforehand, then proceed to Step 9. If not, then continue to get the mac address. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and record your Amazon Echo mac address (Figure 10). Do not exit on this screen.
8. On your laptop or desktop, register the mac address.
9. Back to your smartphone, Alexa app, connect to “CSUMB Guest” wifi (Figure 11). Then, it will show "Preparing your Echo". Wait until "Your echo is now connected" (Figure 12). Continue with the setup. The rest of the setup process is optional.
10. When setup is complete, you can manage your Echo from any Wi-Fi or LTE connection.
