Canvas New Semester Tips: Rolling over Course Content

To roll over your content from the previous semester, follow the steps below:

1. Log in to Canvas and navigate to your course.
2. Click on "Import Existing Content".
3. From the "Content Type" dropdown menu, select your type of content.
   1. To roll over from a previous semester at CSUMB, select "Copy a Canvas Course", then select your previous semester course that you'd like to roll over.
   2. To import a course from a course package (learn more about exporting/importing course packages) from another institution, select "Copy a Canvas Course Export Package", and find the .imscc file that you have already downloaded onto your computer.
4. Select the option to either import All Content (this brings everything over except for student grades and submissions), or choose Select Specific Content (you will choose what specific content to bring over after clicking "Import" in the next step).
5. Optional: Select Adjust events and due dates to adjust or remove all of the dates from the content that will be imported.
6. Click the "Import" button to begin the process.

That's it! You will now see a progress bar and it will show "completed" once the process has completed successfully! If you experience any issues with the import process, check out the troubleshooting guide.
