How To: Activate Microsoft Windows

Problem 

You are receiving a message stating that you must activate your Microsoft Windows or Microsoft Office on a CSUMB owned computer.

Why

You are working remotely and have not connected to the CSUMB network within the last 180 days. 

Fix

Step 1: Launch & Log in to GlobalProtect VPN

Step 2: Connect to the CSUMB Microsoft license server

  • Click on the Windows icon in the task bar.

  • Type CMD into the search and when the window for Command Prompt opens launch the application.

  • The Command Prompt box will pop up. Type slmgr /ato the press the enter key reactivate your Windows operating system.

  • If successful, another the Windows Script Host box will pop up. This box will contain the words Activating Windows Enterprise Edition along with a string of numbers and letters. Click Okay.

  • You have now successfully updated the Microsoft Windows License. 

Note: While still logged into the VPN, launch one of your MicrosoftOffice products like Word, Excel or Powerpoint. This will force Office to update it's license also.

When done you may disconnect the VPN unless you need to access any secured information.
