SumTotal is a free, online eLearning application in which staff and faculty are automatically enrolled for mandatory, recommended and optional skills development. The courses can be taken, and the books and videos can be viewed, from the comfort of your computer.  (SumTotal replaced the Skillport application on January 29, 2019.)

Logging into SumTotal:

  • SumTotal is connected to CSUMB's Single Sign On. You can easily access the application by adding SumTotal to your Dashboard Menu.

  • If you are unable to log into SumTotalplease review the information below before opening a ticket.

Access for Corporation Employees

Verify Employee is Active

In order for a student, staff, or faculty member to have access to SumTotal, it must be after their effective date. An employee's effective date ensures the student, staff, or faculty member has an active status, and they will be loaded into SumTotal after they are active. Allow 24 hours for SumTotal access to take effect. Please contact University Corporation Human Resources with any confusion regarding an employee's effective date.

Also, it is important to follow up with University Corporation Human Resources to verify there is no delay in an employee's paperwork. Contacts for Human Resources on the Corporation side can be found through the following link: https://csumb.edu/corporation/contacts

Person of Interest (POI)

A Person of Interest (POI) for Corporation is a contracted employee that can gain access to SumTotal after filling out the correct forms. A POI form must be submitted to University Corporation Human Resources and processed completely in order for access to SumTotal to be granted. A Corporation POI form can be found through the following link, under the "Personnel" drop down: https://csumb.edu/corporation/corporation-forms#heading-0038e29a-c078-4020-9e35-3168c48e6860. Please follow up with University Corporation Human Resources to verify the POI has been processed.

Access for Stateside

A POI for Stateside is a volunteer employee that can gain access to SumTotal after filling out the correct forms. A POI form must be submitted to HR and processed completely in order for access to SumTotal to be granted. A Stateside "Volunteer/Person of Interest" form can be found through the following link: https://csumb.edu/up/non-recruited-staffing-forms. Please follow up with HR to verify the POI has been processed.

When you are assigned training:

  • You will get an email from SumTotal that will contain a link to your SumTotal dashboard.

  • Log into the SumTotal dashboard using your CSUMB username and password.

  • Access the courses from ASSIGNED LEARNING.

  • Once you have completed a course, you will receive a certificate of completion. Please print this certificate for your records. You may be asked to submit it as proof of training completion.

  • You will receive email notifications when your training due date is one month away and when it is past due.

  • Injury and Illness Prevention Program
