This article covers how to set up your forgot password information, using forgot password to change your password, how to change your password if you already know your passwords, password requirements and password reset tips:
Setting Up Forgot Password Information
In order to reset your password yourself you need either:
- Secondary email (non-csumb.edu email address that you have access to) in OASIS if you're a student or in CMS Employee Resources if you're an employee.
- SMS text number that you have access to.
Update Personal Email in Oasis (Students)
Step one: Click on OASIS in your CSUMB Dashboard.
Step two: Click on Student Center.
Step three: Scroll down to Personal Information and click the drop down menu Other Profile Information and select Email Addresses from the list.
Step four: Select Home from Email Type field and update your personal, non-CSUMB email. Click Save button when done.
Update Personal Email in CMS Employee Resources (Employee)
Step one: Log into CMS Employee Resources from the CSUMB Dashboard.
Step two: Click on Self Service.
Step three: Click on Personal Information
Step four: Click on Email Addresses
Step five: Update your home (aka non-CSUMB) email address then click Save.
SMS Text
Step one: Log into csumb.okta.com
Step two: Click CSUMB in the upper right corner
Step three: Click Settings.
Step four: Click Edit button in Forgot Password Text Message box
Step five: Update the phone number and click Send Code.
Step six: Verify code sent to phone.
Note: If you do not have these two items set up, the only way you will be able to rest your password is to call the help desk at (831)-582-4357 (HELP) during regular business hours.
Forgot My Password
If you have forgotten your password, click on Need help signing in? at the bottom of the CSUMB/Okta log in box:
Select Forgot Password from the expanded list.
In the Reset Password box enter your OtterID as your username.
Select Reset via Email to have a reset password link sent to your email. Remember this goes to your secondary email address on file.
Select Reset via SMS to have a reset password link sent to you via text message. This will only work if you have set up SMS in your settings.
Final Step:
After you change your password you must also forget the the Wi-Fi settings on all your mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and e-readers or you will get locked out. After you have forgotten the settings wait five minutes and set up the devices with your new password.
Changing Your Password When You Know Your Password
To change your password if you already know your password first log into csumb.okta.com. Then click on your name in the upper right corner and select settings. Scroll ot the Change Password section of the settings box and fill out the box your current password, new password and then confirm your new password. Then click Save Password at the bottom.
Final Step:
After you change your password you must also forget the the Wi-Fi settings on all your mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and e-readers or you will get locked out. After you have forgotten the settings wait five minutes and set up the devices with your new password.
Password Requirements
When creating your new password please keep in mind these password requirements:
- Password should be at least ten characters long.
- Password should contain at least one:
- Uppercase letter
- lowercase letter
- number
- special character
- Password should never contain any part of: your name, username, email address, date of birth or social security number.
- Password cannot be any of your previous three passwords.
- Password cannot contain the word CSUMB
- Passwords must be changed every 365 days.
- Fifteen days before your password expires, your next login will include the opportunity to change it.
- Your account locks out after 5 unsuccessful attempts.
- A locked account unlocks automatically after 10 minutes.
Password Reset Tips
- Employees using CSUMB-issued computers working a remote schedule: If you are working remote follow the directions for changing your password, but to update the password on your CSUMB-issued windows computer, log in with your old password then connect to GlobalProtect VPN and leave it connected for at least 15 minutes. - All users: If you change your password off-campus then come on-campus, you need to make sure you forget the CSUMB Wi-Fi connection on any/all devices as soon as you are on-campus or your account will lock out. If you forget to do this and your account locks out, forget the CSUMB Wi-Fi network, wait 15 minutes and then set up your CSUMB Wi-Fi with your new password.
- All users: If you change your password and have your CSUMB email or calendar on your smartphone, you may need to update them to the new password.
