Voicemail FAQ

Frequently asked questions regarding the campus voicemail system:

Q. Can I check my voicemail from off campus?

A. Yes- there are a couple of ways to access your voicemail from off campus:

  • To access voicemail by phone from off campus using a telephone, dial 582-5999. When the greeting starts playing, press the pound sign (#), then enter your extension and password.
  • If you have email notification for your campus voicemail, you check it online using the online portal at voicemail.csumb.edu from anywhere using your campus Google account. For more information see: How to log on to the ESNA Officelinx web portal (Voicemail Portal).
    • Note: If you get an "access denied" error you probably don't have email notification for your campus voicemail. If you would like to have it, please submit an IT ticket.

Q. I am locked out of my voicemail box, how do I unlock it?

A. Please submit an IT ticket and we will reset it for you.

Q. Can I forward my work phone to my Cell or home phone?

A. Call forwarding of campus extensions to external lines is available for voicemail users.  It is completely managed online by the user through the online portal at voicemail.csumb.edu.  For more information see:

Q. Are there things I should be aware of, if I forward my campus phone?

 A. You will be using the campus voicemail system to forward calls.

  • The caller will hear 4 rings before the call is transferred to you.
  • If possible, from your work phone press the Send All  button (send all calls to voicemail). When Send All is enabled, all calls will go immediately to voicemail.
  • When you receive a forwarded call and do not answer it, your cell phone voicemail will take the message, not the campus voicemail system.
  • If you use your personal phone to call someone back, you can block your cell phone's callerID info from being displayed by pressing *67 before dialing out.

Q. Why is my campus phone's message light off when I have a new message?

A.  If you are getting emails with transcribed voice messages, then your voicemail box is "synchronized" with Gmail.  This means that when you read an email containing your voice message, the campus voicemail system gets a notification from Gmail that the message was read.  The voicemail system then sends a notification to the phone system to turn off the message waiting light on your phone.

  • Deleting emails containing your voice message will also cause the messages to be deleted from the voicemail system.
  • It is not necessary to retrieve or manage voice messages through your phone when your voicemail box is synchronized with Gmail.
